Mount Cook (Aoraki) Reflection
Fine Art Landscape Photography Prints by Stephen Milner
Because of the subtle warm light and vibrant colours, autumn is a beautiful season to visit Mount Cook (Aoraki). Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. It soars into the sky at 3,724 metres and is part of the Southern Alps mountain range that runs the length of the South Island. Mount Cook is a popular tourist destination, and it is a favourite challenge for mountain climbers. It is a prominent landmark in the central South Island region of New Zealand, and many stunning Glaciers surrounding it, including the Tasmin glacier, the Hooker Glacier, the Fox Glacier, and the Franz Joseph Glacier. The Tasmin and Hooker glaciers feed into Lake Pukaki.
The name Aoraki traditions from the Ngāi Tahu iwi; an early name for the South Island is Te Waka o Aoraki (Aoraki's Canoe). New Zealanders Tom Fyfe, John Michael (Jack) Clarke and George Graham are known for the first ascent via the Hooker Valley and the north ridge on 25 December 1894.
