Panoramic Landscape Photography in New Zealand's South Island - Day 3

Panoramic Landscape Photography in New Zealand's South Island - Day 3

The medium format digital camera is awesome for panoramic landscape photography.

The medium format digital camera is awesome for panomric landscape photography. In todays video, I share with you my landscape photos from my third day on New Zealand's South Island. This is part of a series of videos that take me on a multi day journey. The spirit of the journey is adventure and to experience new challenges. It follows the mountains in New Zealand South Island to photograph glaciers.

These photos represent and important transition in my mindset during this landscape photography road trip. For a long time, I have visualised my photography in the square format. For many years, I have used film photography with square format film cameras. The Fujifilm GFX cameras have many aspect ratios to choose from, and one of them is 65 x 24. All the photos from this day were taken using the 65 x 24 aspect ratio, which provides the same aspect ratio 17 x 6 film cameras. I have wanted to use the 17 x 6 aspect ratio more in my photography because of how its wide but narrow view can be used to frame the landscape.

I enjoyed using the 65 x 24 aspect ratio because it allowed me to explore panormaic landscape photography, and because it suited many of the landscapes I visited. Most of the landscapes where photographed from a far away position and the 65 x 24 aspect ratio removed the top and bottom parts of the scene, that did not add any value to the final photo.
